Douglas Carnival is back!
After three years’ break during the improvement works on the Prom, Douglas Carnival is due to return on Saturday 23rd July 2022 and we’d like as many sectors of community involved as possible. In this platinum jubilee year, we have a theme; Queens. Interpret that however you’d like.
The procession will form up on the Promenade walkway near the Jubilee Kiosk for a start at 4.00pm and travel along Loch Promenade to the new cultural area on Harris Promenade where entries may dismount and perform or otherwise do their thing. The carnival is open to floats, walking groups, vehicles, bikes and anyone else who would like to take part. The main stipulation for vehicles is that they must be able to manoeuvre off the walkway onto Loch Promenade without having to reverse. You’ll find a plan of the route and an application form on the following pages.
Don’t worry about the details for now though, all you need to do at this stage is to register to participate, ideally by the end of May. You can then work up your float and costumes and we’ll collect full details of your entry nearer to the event.
All entries will automatically be judged under the following categories to win a £100 cash prize for first place in each;
- Most Fabulous
- Most Colourful
- Most Musical
- Most Creative
- Best Costumed
- Most Energetic
- Best Performance
- Most Powerful Message
- Best Collaboration
There will also be a special Mayor’s Prize and the people’s choice.
So, it’s time to start planning your entry.
